Reason for nicattch karma binding
Nikachit (निकचित) karma is the class of karmas that are already bound to the soul and are currently influencing its experiences. The binding happens when the mind, speech, and body act with passions (kasayas) and with wrong understanding. These karmas cling to the jiva due to the ongoing influx of impressions and the stickiness created by our mental and physical actions. The effect of Nikachit karma is realized at its fruition unless purified.
Key points in Jain view:
- Cause of binding: actions, thoughts, and intents driven by passions (anger, greed, attachment, pride) and wrong beliefs.
- Mechanism: karmic particles attach to the soul because of the ongoing “stickiness” of passions; once bound, they shape present and future experiences.
- Result: these karmas influence body, mind, and perception until they are shed or purified through the path of purification (right faith, right knowledge, right conduct) and reduction of passions.
