Iriyavahiya (Iriyavahim) Sutra is a short Jain Prakrit stanza recited in the daily Pratikramana ritual, mainly associated with Śvetāmbara practice. It is a confession and repentance prayer, acknowledging that while moving in daily life one may unintentionally harm many living beings, and asking for forgiveness. The sutra has a traditional form and a clear meaning in Jain ethics of ahimsa and humility. In Digambara and Śvetāmbara traditions, the usage and emphasis can differ, but the core idea of repentance for minimal harm is common.

Meaning:

• While walking I may have caused pain to or crushed living beings such as:

live seeds, live plants, tiny beings in dew, ant hills, moss, beings in water, beings in earth, webs of spiders.

• I may have harassed or harmed beings with various senses (one to five), from simple to highly complex animals.
• I may have affected others while traveling, by dust, contact, collision, or movement.
• May all such acts be forgiven, and may the suffering I caused end. May the ignorance in me that caused harm end, and may all beings forgive me.

• This sutra is especially highlighted in Śvetāmbara practice as part of daily reflection. In Digambar traditions, similar repentance prayers exist, but the exact arrangement and recitation may differ.
