Why can we not eat green vegetables on tithi
In Jainism, green vegetables may be avoided on certain tithis (lunar days) as part of extra restraint to practice ahimsa (non-violence) and minimize harm to living beings, including tiny life forms in plants. On days like specific tithis, people abstain from greens because those days are considered times of increased life activity in plants, so avoiding greens reduces potential harm. There are also notes that practices can vary between Digambar and Shwetambar communities and by local tradition; some observe broader restrictions during a tithi, while others may follow milder rules. Root vegetables are generally avoided in Jain practice, and the greens restriction on tithis is an additional, tithi-specific rule.
