• For monks and nuns (mahavratas): Any sexual thought, sight, or act is strictly forbidden. Brahmacharya (celibacy) includes mind, speech, and body, so pornography is not permissible.
• For lay Jains (householders): Sexual conduct should be within marriage and kept under self-control. Pornography is seen as a temptation that inflames passions (kaṣāya), leads to attachment, and creates karmic bondage. It is regarded as an atichāra (transgression) of brahmacharya-anuvrata and falls under the category of purposeless or harmful conduct.

What to do if one struggles with this habit:

• Practice pratikraman (confession and remorse) sincerely.
• Engage in samayik (meditation on a fixed time) to calm the mind.
• Strengthen self-restraint (śamīpat) and reduce triggers; maintain simple, virtuous routines.
• Reflect on the harms of sensual indulgence (anuprekṣā) and cultivate aparigraha (non-attachment).

Differences between Digambar and Śvetāmbara:

• Both traditions uphold absolute celibacy for ascetics and encourage restrained, moral conduct for householders; pornography is not approved in either.
