    Mantras for anxiety

    one year ago 177

In Jainism, reciting mantras is considered a spiritual practice that can help calm the mind and reduce anxiety by focusing thoughts on spiritual ideals. Here are some important Jain mantras that are often recited for inner peace and to help with anxiety:

    1. Navkar Mantra (Namokar Mantra)

This is the most fundamental and powerful mantra in Jainism, believed to purify the mind and bring peace:

_"Namo Arihantanam Namo Siddhanam Namo Ayariyanam Namo Uvajjhayanam Namo Loe Savva-sahunam Eso Panch Namokkaro Savva Pava Panasano Manglananch Savvesim Padhamam Havai Mangalam"_

Meaning: I bow to the Arihants (enlightened beings), Siddhas (liberated souls), Acharyas (spiritual leaders), Upadhyayas (teachers), and all Sadhus (monks). This fivefold salutation destroys all sins and is the most auspicious of all auspicious things.

    1. Ucchavās–Anucchavās (Breathing with Mantra)

While focusing on your breath, you can mentally recite the word "Aum" or "Arihant" as you inhale and exhale. This practice helps calm the mind and regulate anxiety.

    1. Peace Mantra (Shanti Path)

    _"Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti"_

Repeating this mantra can help invoke peace within oneself.

    How to Practice:

    • Sit in a quiet place in a comfortable posture.
    • Close your eyes and focus on your breathing.
    • Silently or softly chant any of the above mantras.
    • Let your mind absorb the meaning and vibrations of the mantra.

Note: Recitation should be done with devotion and an understanding of its meaning for the best effect, as per Jain teachings.

If anxiety persists, Jain philosophy also encourages practicing forgiveness, non-attachment (aparigraha), and meditation (samayik) for deeper and lasting peace.
