Muhapatti is a mouth-cloth or small cloth kept over the mouth by Jain monks and some lay followers. Its primary purpose is to prevent harm to tiny living beings that we might inhale or come into contact with during speech or movement. It is a practical expression of ahimsa (non-violence) and a reminder to be mindful of all life, even the smallest jiva.

• Different traditions note slightly different usage, but the core idea remains: to minimize accidental harm to micro-life forms while engaging in daily activities.
