We are in the Avasarpini, the descending (declining) arc of the present cosmic half-cycle. In Jain cosmology, each half-cycle (both Utsarpini and Avasarpini) is divided into 12 aras. We are currently within the ongoing Avasarpini portion, in the later stages of that half-cycle according to traditional timelines. There are variations in the exact numbering of the later aras between Digambara and Śvetāmbara traditions, but the overall point remains: we are in the descending half of the current cosmic cycle.
