Sudharma Swami, also known as Sudharmāsvāmī or Sudharman, is traditionally revered as the fifth Ganadhara (chief disciple) of Mahavira. After Mahavira’s nirvana, Sudharma Swami is said to have led the Jain sangha for about 12 years and to have organized Mahavira’s teachings into the core scriptures (the 12 Anga), later part of the collection known as the Dwadashangi. He is also described as the one who preserved and transmitted Mahavira’s teachings in their written form for the Jain community. In many lineages, Sudharma Swami is considered the immediate spiritual predecessor to Jambuswami, who followed him as the head of the Jain order. He is traditionally dated to have been born around 607 BCE and to have attained omniscience around 515 BCE, with nirvana around 507 BCE at about 100 years of age.
