Who is matanga
Matanga ( Mataṅga ) is the name given to a Yaksha (attendant deity) in Jainism. Yakshas are the male attendants of the Tirthankaras.
- In Śvetāmbara tradition, Mataṅga is associated with Suparśvanātha (the 7th Tirthankara) as his Yaksha.
- In some sources, Mataṅga is also described as the Yaksha of Mahāvíra (the 24th Tirthankara).
- In Digambara tradition, the attendant figures related to Mataṅga are sometimes listed differently: Varanandi and Kali are given as the accompanying beings, rather than Mataṅga himself.
