bal diksha headshave
Bal Diksha is the Jain ceremony for a child beginning spiritual training and vows to follow the Jain path. It is not the same as the full monk’s Diksha, but it is a first step toward renunciation.
- Do you shave the head at Bal Diksha? Not always. In Diksha ceremonies for monks and nuns, hair removal is common as a sign of renunciation, but the exact practice differs by tradition.
- Bal Diksha itself for children emphasizes vows, study, and spiritual formation, rather than immediate full ascetic renunciation. Later, when one takes deeper Diksha to become a monk or nun, the hair-removal practice is observed according to the tradition.
