    Vinami decendant of Rishabhanath

    9 months ago 29

Rishabhanath (Adinath) is said in Jain texts to have had 100 sons. The two most famous are Bharata Chakravarti and Bahubali (Kammāteshwarā / Gomateshwara). Bharata ruled Ayodhya/Vinita, Bahubali ruled Asmaka, and both later renounced worldly life. Besides them there were many other sons, and also daughters such as Brahmi and Sundari in some traditions. This is the standard Jain narrative found in both Digambara and Śvetāmbara sources, though names and details can vary slightly between traditions. A common core is: Rishabhanath is the father of Bharata and Bahubali, along with many other children. No traditional Jain sources record a descendant named “Vinami” as a well-known, historically recognized line from Rishabhanath. ( britannica.com)

Key points to keep in mind:

    • Bharata is the eldest son of Rishabhanath and is the archetypal Chakravartin (universal ruler).
    • Bahubali is his brother, also a major figure in Jain legends, famous for his long Kayotsarga meditation.
    • The broader line of descendants is described in various Purāṇic texts, but the names most commonly cited are Bharata and Bahubali; many other sons and daughters are mentioned in some texts. Different Jain sects may list names with slight variations, but the overarching lineage remains the same. ( britannica.com)

If you meant a specific name or a local tradition, tell me which tradition (Digambar or Śvetāmbara) or which text you’re referencing, and I can focus on that lineage.
