Are saitwal jains decendants of Rishabhanatha?
Short answer: In Jainism, all Jains recognize Rishabhanatha as the first Tirthankara, and many communities describe themselves as followers of that spiritual lineage. However, there is no universal, canonical claim that the Saitwal Jains are a direct, fixed physical descent from Rishabhanatha. Saitwal Jains are a Digambar Jain community (primarily in Maharashtra) with their own social and genealogical traditions, and like other Jain groups they use various gotras as social identifiers. So, spiritual connection to Rishabhanatha is common in Jain thought, but a definite “descendant of Rishabhanatha” lineage for Saitwal as a fixed genealogical claim is not established in canonical sources.
