In Jain tradition, there is a story in which the Tirthankara Damodarswami (the 8th Tirthankara of the last Uttarpini) foretells the time of a devotee’s emancipation to occur during the era of the 23rd Tirthankara, Parshwanath. The devotee, Ashadhi Shravak, asks when his salvation will come, and Damodarswami prophesies that Ashadhi will attain moksha in the time of Parshwanath in the forthcoming Avasarpini. This tale is associated with the Shvetambar tradition's Kalpa Sutra and related narratives and is also reflected in temple legends such as the Shankheshwar Parshwanath lineage. It is sometimes given with the Gandhar Ashadhi’s name and the form of Parshwanath he would envision and fashion in devotion. Different Jain sects may tell this story with varying names or details, but the core idea is a foretold connection between Ashadhi Shravak’s life and the era of Parshwanath.
