Short story for 5 year old kid

    9 months ago 61

Here is a gentle, Jain-friendly short story for a 5-year-old.

Title: The Tiny Ants and the Kind Forest

In a bright, peaceful village lived a little girl named Asha. She loved flowers, birds, and every tiny creature she met. Her grandmother taught her a special way to treat all living beings—with kindness, truth, and a gentle heart.

One sunny afternoon, Asha was walking to the big banyan tree to draw pictures in her notebook. On the path lived a line of tiny ants. They carried leaves much bigger than themselves, marching in a careful parade.

“Hello, little friends,” Asha whispered. The ants stopped and looked up at her with their tiny antennae wiggling. “I will not step on you,” she promised, kneeling down slowly so as not to scare them.

The ants were heading to a hill where they kept their food for winter. But a big rock rolled onto the path, blocking them. Asha could see the fear in their tiny faces. She thought of what her grandmother said about ahimsa—non-violence and kindness to all living beings.

“I will help you cross safely,” she told the ants. She looked around for a way to move the rock without hurting it or any creature nearby. She found a long stick and gently nudged the rock to the side, just enough for the ants to slip past.

While the ants passed, Asha noticed a small beetle stuck under a leaf. Its wings were crushed, and it looked sad. Asha picked up the leaf very softly, talked to the beetle with a calm voice, and set it on a safe patch of ground. “There you go, little friend,” she smiled, hoping the beetle would be okay.

A breeze rustled the leaves, and a sparrow swooped down, chirping softly as if saying “thank you.” Asha whispered, “We all belong to this world, big or small. We must protect each other.” She took a small cloth from her bag and offered it to a tired ant who had slipped on the path. The ant tucked the cloth around its tiny body and continued on.

When the sun started to dip, the path grew cooler. The ants reached their hill, the beetle found a sunny spot to rest, and the sparrow sang a gentle song. Asha stood up, feeling happy and calm inside her heart.

“Today I chose kindness,” she said softly to herself. “I will always try to live without harming any creature and to help whenever I can.” She waved goodbye to her new tiny friends and walked home with a peaceful glow.

Moral of the story: True strength is shown through kindness and non-violence to all living beings, no matter how small. When we help others, we bring light and peace to ourselves and to the world.

If you’d like, I can tailor the story to your child’s favorite animals or add a simple drawing prompt at the end.
