what is required to get moksha from this earth

    9 months ago 183

To get moksha (liberation) from this earth according to Jain Dharma, a soul must complete a very clear and exact spiritual process. In simple points:

    1. Understand what moksha is

    - Complete freedom from birth and death (no more rebirth anywhere in the universe). - All karmas finished, the soul becomes pure, with infinite knowledge, perception, happiness and energy. - Such a liberated soul goes to Siddha‑shila, at the top of the universe, and never returns.

    1. The basic requirement: destroy all karma

Karma is a very fine matter that binds to the soul due to: - Passions (anger, pride, deceit, greed) - Attachment and aversion (raag–dvesh) - Wrong belief and ignorance Moksha comes only when all karmas are first stopped from coming (samvar) and then destroyed (nirjara).

    1. The only path: Ratnatraya – Three Jewels

Every Jain tradition agrees that moksha is only through these three:

    1. Samyak Darshan (Right Faith / Right Vision) - True, unshaken faith in: - Soul (jiv) and non‑soul (ajiv) - Karma, rebirth, heaven, hell, and moksha - Tirthankars and their teachings - Free from blind superstition, doubt, and wrong beliefs.

    2. Samyak Jnan (Right Knowledge) - Correct understanding of reality as taught by the Jinas: - What is soul, what is karma - What leads to bondage, what leads to liberation - Based on Jain scriptures and true Acharyas, not on guess or fashion.

    3. Samyak Charitra (Right Conduct) - Living exactly according to Jain principles, as per your stage of life: - For muni / aryika / sadhvi: strict Mahavratas (great vows) and high austerities. - For shravak / shravika: 12 vows, daily discipline, inner purity. - Main vows for all: - Ahimsa – non‑violence in thought, word, deed - Satya – truthfulness - Asteya – not stealing - Brahmacharya – celibacy / sexual purity as per dharma - Aparigraha – non‑possession, non‑attachment

These three together are called Moksha‑marg (path to liberation).

    1. Practical inner work needed

To truly move towards moksha from this earth, one must:

    - Reduce and end passions Anger, pride, deceit, greed are the main doors through which heavy karma enters. - Practice Tapas (austerities) - Fasting, limiting food, simple living - Meditation, pratikraman (repentance), prarthana (prayer), kayotsarg (body‑stillness). - Do regular Pratikraman - Accepting one’s mistakes, asking forgiveness, resolving not to repeat them. - Develop Vairagya (detachment) - Seeing the world as temporary - Reducing attachment to body, relatives, wealth, name‑fame.

    1. Difference between Digambar and Shwetambar views (in short)

    - Both agree fully on: - Nature of moksha (total end of karma and rebirth) - Need for Right Faith, Right Knowledge, Right Conduct - Need to destroy all passions and karmas. - They differ in some outer details, like: - Exact rules of monastic life - View on whether women can directly attain moksha in this era, clothing of munis, etc. - But the inner requirements (pure conduct, total non‑attachment, destruction of karma) are the same.

    1. From “this earth” – is place enough?

    - Just being on earth is not enough to get moksha. - Jain Agams say: - Moksha is attained only by a soul who has: - Perfect Right Faith - Perfect Right Knowledge - Perfect Right Conduct without any passions. - Only very high‑level ascetics (with kashayas finished) actually attain moksha from such places (like Sammed Shikhar, Girnar, etc.). Ordinary good life alone does not give moksha, but it creates strong punya and good conditions for progress.

    1. In simple, daily-language summary

To get moksha from here (from this human life on earth), one must:

    - Believe correctly in Jain Tirthankars and their teachings. - Learn and understand Jain principles properly. - Live them honestly every day. - Slowly remove anger, pride, deceit, greed. - Reduce attachment to body, money, relations. - Follow vows appropriate to your stage (as a layperson or as a sadhu/sadhvi). - Do regular self‑check, repentance, and forgiveness. - Practice tapas and meditation to burn old karmas.

When all karmas are finished and only pure soul remains, that soul definitely attains moksha.
