what is the goal of jainism
In Jainism, the highest goal is:
1. Moksha (Liberation)
- To become completely free from all karmas (bondage of the soul).
- When all karmas are destroyed, the soul attains:
- Such a soul is called a Siddha and stays forever at the top of the universe (Siddhashila), never taking birth again.
Digambar and Shwetambar traditions may differ in some practices and details, but both agree that the ultimate goal is moksha / siddhahood – complete liberation of the soul.
2. How Jainism guides us to this goal
To move towards moksha, Jain Dharma teaches us to:- Follow Ahimsa (non‑violence in thoughts, words, and actions)
- Follow Satya, Achaurya, Brahmacharya, Aparigraha (truth, non‑stealing, celibacy/chastity, non‑possessiveness)
- Develop Samyak Darshan, Samyak Jnan, Samyak Charitra (right faith, right knowledge, right conduct)
Living this way slowly purifies the soul, reduces karmas, and brings us closer to the final goal of liberation.
