From bhagavati sutra-Kanksha mohaniya karma is sarva se sarva krut-how is it possible
“Kaṅkṣā-mohaniya karma is sarva se sarva krut” — this sounds confusing only because of the depth of what mohaniya-karma does.
Let’s break it in simple Jain terms:
1. What is kaṅkṣā-mohaniya?
In context, kaṅkṣā means icchhā / longing / desire / expectation kind of mental state that arises due to mohaniya karma (deluding karma).
Mohanīya karma:
- creates mithyātva (wrong belief)
- and kaṣāyas (anger, pride, deceit, greed)
- and all kinds of rāga–dveṣa (attachment–aversion)
So, kaṅkṣā is one form of inner disturbance / wanting, produced by this mohaniya karma.
2. Why is it called “sarva se sarva krut”?
Because according to Jain karma-philosophy:
- Mohaniya karma is the root for the bondage of all other karmas.
- Without mohaniya, other karmas cannot firmly bind or cannot produce their full effect.
- Every kaṣāya (anger, pride, deceit, greed), every desire, every expectation (kaṅkṣā) arises only when mohaniya is active.
- Therefore, from the vyavahār (practical) point of view, all sinful activities (pāpa) and all karmic bondages (bandha) are “caused” by this delusion.
So “sarva se sarva krut” means:
> All other karmas, all wrong actions, all bondages > are, in the end, caused (made possible) by mohaniya.
In very simple language:
> “Jo bhi bura karm bandhtā hai, uske pīchhe mohaniya hai. > Isliye use sab ka kāraṇ – sarva se sarva krut – kahā gayā hai.”
3. How is this possible technically?
From standard Jain doctrine (both Śvetāmbara and Digambara accept this principle):
- Mohaniya is the chief karma (pradhān karma) among the ghāti-karmas.
- If mohaniya is destroyed, then:
- No new ghāti karma bondage with kaṣāya can occur. - A soul can never fall again into mithyātva or bad conduct.
- All violence, lies, stealing, sensuality, attachment, hatred etc. only happen because the soul is under delusion.
- This is why āchāryas say:
- “Yāvat mohaniya, tāvat saṃsāra.” As long as mohaniya exists, saṃsāra continues. - And in essence, all bondage is due to delusion.
So to say “kaṅkṣā-mohaniya is sarva se sarva krut” is to stress:
- All karmic problems = result of mohaniya
- All spiritual progress begins when mohaniya weakens (shraddhā becomes right, passions cool down).
4. Same idea in Bhagavatī-sūtra style
Bhagavatī-sūtra and other Āgamas explain:
- The soul is naturally pure (śuddha–jīva).
- But due to wrong belief and passions, it binds karma.
- These wrong belief and passions are nothing but mohaniya and its forms (like kaṅkṣā).
Hence, from the angle of cause, mohaniya is called:
- “mūl” (root)
- “sarva-hetu” (cause of all)
- i.e. sarva se sarva krut.
