In Jain Dharma, the origin of Jin‑dharma is understood in a very special way:

1. Jin‑dharma is eternal (अनादि‑अनन्त)

- Jain scriptures say Dharma is anādi–ananta – without beginning and without end. - So Jain Dharma did not “start” on a particular date” and is not founded by any one person. - It is an eternal truth about the soul, karma, and liberation, always existing in the universe.

1. Tirthankars only re‑discover and re‑establish it

- In every time‑cycle, 24 Tirthankars appear. - They do not create a new dharma; they reveal again the same eternal Jin‑dharma which had become weak or forgotten. - In the current time‑cycle, the 1st Tirthankar is Bhagwan Rishabhdev (Adinath) and the 24th is Bhagwan Mahavir.

1. Role of Bhagwan Mahavir

- Historically, people often think “Jainism started with Mahavir”. - Jain viewpoint: Mahavir is a reviver, not the founder. - He reorganized the sangh (monk–nun–shravak–shravika community) and re‑established the pure form of Jin‑dharma for this last phase of our current era.

1. No “religion before Jain Dharma” in Jain view

- From the Jain standpoint, Jin‑dharma itself is the Sanatan (eternal) Dharma. - Other paths may arise and disappear in time, but the path taught by Jinas (right faith, right knowledge, right conduct) is always there, whether many people follow it or only a few.

In simple words: Jin‑dharma was never “born” – it has always existed. Tirthankars like Rishabhdev and Mahavir show it again and again to the world.
