1. Some dev (heavenly) births

- After portions of cruel and deluding karmas are exhausted, he sometimes rises to deva gati (heavenly realms). - These dev-births: - Are not final or safe. - Are the fruit of some meritorious karmas (puṇya) done somewhere in between. - However, without right faith, dev-birth also finishes, and again he falls to mixed or lower gatis.

1. Very far in the future: right faith and mokṣa

- Only after an unimaginable long time, and after: - Many hell, animal, human, and dev births, - A great deal of moha-karma has been worn out, - He finally gains: - Samyag-darśan (right faith), - Then right knowledge and conduct, - Then complete destruction of karmas, and - Attains mokṣa. - This liberation is not at all near; it is placed extremely far in the future to show the weight of his present misconduct.
