Mantra for upvas parna
For upvas pārṇā (breaking the fast), there is no single fixed “only this” mantra in all Jain traditions. Most families do this simple and safe method:
- Sit calmly (preferably near Jin mandir or in a clean place).
- Recite Navkar Mantra with full devotion:
``` णमो अरिहंताणं । णमो सिद्धाणं । णमो आयरियाणं । णमो उवज्झायाणं । णमो लोए सव्वसाहूणं ॥ ```
- After Navkar, many also say:
“मिच्छामि दुक्कडं” (arth: जो भी अशुभ हो गया हो, वह व्यर्थ हो जाए; सब मुझसे प्रसन्न रहें।)
- In some families, especially after longer fasts, people also say in their own words:
- “आज के उपवास में अगर कोई भूल हो गई हो तो क्षमा करना।” - Then remember Arihant, Siddha, Āchārya, Upādhyāya, Sādhu‑sādhviji in mind.
- Then slowly do pārṇā
- First take थोड़े गुनगुने उबाले हुए पानी के सिप - Then very हल्का, साधारण भोजन (जैसे पेय/खिचड़ी), धीरे‑धीरे, शांत मन से।
Small notes (Digambar / Shwetambar)
- Both sects: Navkar Mantra is completely common and best for pārṇā.
- Extra shlok, stavan etc. can be added as per your family / guru / sangh – but Navkar + Micchhāmi Dukkaḍaṃ is always appropriate.
