    Travel to Palitana from vadodara

    4 months ago 127

Here’s a simple travel + yatra–focused guide from Vadodara to Palitana:

    1. Distance & Time

    • Approx distance: 200–240 km (depending on route).
    • By road: about 4–6 hours.
    • By train: about 5½–7½ hours (including halts/changes).

    ---

    2. Easiest travel options

    A. Direct bus (very convenient for yatris)

    • Daily GSRTC + private buses Vadodara → Palitana.
    • Travel time: around 5½–6 hours. ( redbus.in)
    • Types: Non‑AC, AC, sleeper, seater.
    • Good if you want to reach Palitana bus stand and then go to derasar / dharmashala.

    B. Train (if timings suit you)

    • Trains run Vadodara Jn (BRC) → Palitana (PIT) or via Bhavnagar.
    • Fastest around 5½ hours; some take longer. ( goibibo.com)
    • Check latest timings on IRCTC / train apps before booking.

    C. Car / Taxi

    • Driving time: approx 4–5 hours. ( rome2rio.com)
    • Route is straight highway side; comfortable if travelling with family/elderly.

    ---

    3. On reaching Palitana (Jain yatra points)

Palitana = Shatrunjaya Tirth, one of the holiest Jain teerths, with hundreds of marble temples on Shatrunjaya hill, mainly Śvetāmbara, with a smaller Digambar presence. ( bhavnagar.nic.in) You can read more here

Key practical points as per Jain maryādā:

    1. Hill timings & stay

    - Temples generally open early morning (~6 am) and close before sunset (around 6 pm). - No one is allowed to stay on the Shatrunjaya hill at night; you must come down the same day. ( jainknowledge.com)

    1. Climb

    - Around 3,500+ steps, 3–4 km uphill; plan 1½–3 hours up, 1–2 hours down depending on health. ( en.wikipedia.org) - Elderly/weak can take doli (palanquin) from base.

    1. Ahimsā & discipline during yatra

    - Traditionally: no eating on the way; many don’t carry food to the top. - Be alert for insects, especially in monsoon; walk carefully. - Maintain silence or soft bhakti; avoid loud talk/music. - Phones and photography are generally not allowed in temple complex; keep phone away or off. ( jainknowledge.com)

    1. Where to stay (Jain-friendly)

    - Multiple Śvetāmbara and Digambar dharmashalas and bhojanalayas near Taleti/base. - For Digambar facilities, basic contacts are here: ( jainknowledge.com)

    ---

    4. Best time to travel from Vadodara for yatra

    • Climate‑wise: Oct–March is ideal (cooler for climbing). ( bhavnagar.nic.in)
    • Spiritually, big crowds come on:
    - Fagun Sud Teras (6‑gaon yatra) - Kartik Purnima / Chha Gau Teerth Yatra - Mahavir Jayanti, Paryushan You can see festival overview here ( jainknowledge.com)

If you tell your preferred date and whether you are going mainly for darshan or full yatra (Nav tunk / long feri), you can choose bus/train timing so you reach Taleti very early morning for a peaceful climb.
