Someone told me that my gotra is shankeshwar in jain? Is it correct ?

In Jainism, “gotra” is not a core religious concept; it is mostly a family / social lineage name used in some Jain communities, especially for marriage records and genealogy.

A few important points for you:

    1. “Shankeshwar” is usually a Tirth (pilgrimage place) name, famous for Shri Shankheshwar Parshvanath.

    - Many Jains say things like “we are Shankeshwar Parshvanath bhakta” or “our kuldev is Shankeshwar Parshvanath.” - That does not automatically mean your gotra is “Shankeshwar”; it more likely means your family’s main dev / kuldev is Shankeshwar Parshvanath, or your ancestors lived near that area.

    1. Jain scriptures do not fix gotras like Hindu shastras do.

    - Different Jain communities (Oswal, Porwal, etc., mainly Śvetāmbara) have their own traditional lists of gotras. - Digambar Jains, especially, often do not emphasise gotra at all; they go more by surname, region, or community name.

    1. Because of this, whether your gotra is really “Shankeshwar” can be known only from:

    - Your family elders (dada, dadi, nana, nani, etc.). - Old marriage lagna-patrikas, family records, or community registers. - Your local Jain sangh / temple, if they maintain genealogical details.

So, someone casually telling you “your gotra is Shankeshwar” may be mixing up kuldev / tirth-name with gotra-name. To be accurate in Jain tradition, please confirm it with your parents/elders or old family documents.
