“Shwetambar” (also written Śvetāmbara) is one of the two main sects in Jainism.

Very simple meaning:

• “Shweta” = white
• “Ambar” = clothes / garment
• Shwetambar = “white‑clad”

Key points:

• Shwetambar sadhus and sadhvis (monks and nuns) wear simple white clothes.
• They accept both men and women as monks/nuns and believe women can also attain moksha.
• They follow a set of Jain scriptures called Agams (Āgamas).
• In daily life they follow the same main Jain principles: ahimsa (non‑violence), satya (truth), asteya (non‑stealing), brahmacharya (celibacy), and aparigraha (non‑possessiveness).

The other main Jain sect is Digambar (“sky‑clad”), whose monks practice nudity as total renunciation.
