“Iha bhaviye charitte, no parbhaviye” (Bhagavatī Sūtra – Ardhamāgadhī Prakrit) very simply means:

• “In this very existence (this life), become established in right conduct (charitra);

do not depend on ‘some other’ existence (future birth) for it.”

Word-by-word sense (simple):

• iha – here, in this very life / present existence
• bhaviye – in this (your) bhava, present state of existence
• charitte – in charitra, pure conduct (right behaviour based on right faith and right knowledge)
• no parbhaviye – not in another existence / not postponing to some future life

Essence according to Jain tradition:

Jain Āgamas again and again teach: Do not think, “I will follow real dharma later, in some better birth.” Purify your conduct now, in this very life. Future births are uncertain; this moment is in your hand.

Both Śvetāmbara and Digambara understanding of such statements is essentially the same in spirit:

• Stress on present effort (purushārtha ‘now’)
• Warning not to rely on a future birth or some other condition for doing true sādhana and right conduct.
