    when do do pratikamanan

    8 months ago 138

In Jainism, Pratikraman is mainly linked to time of day and frequency.

    1. Daily Pratikraman (most important for a shravak)

    • Raisi / Raishi (Morning Pratikraman)
    - Done in the morning after sunrise, ideally within the first prahar (about 3 hours after sunrise). - Meant for mistakes done during the previous night.

    • Devasi (Evening Pratikraman)
    - Done at sunset or soon after, usually within about 48 minutes after sunset. - Meant for mistakes done during that day.

Many lay Jains try to do both – morning and evening – every day.

    2. If daily is not possible Traditional guidance is step‑down like this:

    • Pakshi (Fortnightly) Pratikraman – at least once every 15 days.
    • Chaumasi (Four‑monthly) Pratikraman – at least once in 4 months.
    • Samvatsari (Yearly) Pratikraman – must do at least once a year on Samvatsari/Kshamavani.

    3. Real principle Ideally, Pratikraman should be done as soon as you realize a mistake – not only by clock rule. The fixed times (morning/evening, pakshi, etc.) are to ensure we don’t keep delaying repentance.
