when do do pratikaman
Pratikraman is mainly done every day, at fixed times. In simple words:
1. Daily Pratikraman (most important)
- Morning – Raisi / Rai Pratikraman
- Evening – Devasi / Sandhyā Pratikraman
Most śrāvak (householders) try to do at least evening (Devasi) Pratikraman daily, and if possible, both morning and evening.
2. Other regular Pratikramans
- Pakkhi (Pakshi) Pratikraman – every 14th day of lunar fortnight.
- Chaumasi Pratikraman – once in 4 months (end of each Chaturmās).
- Samvatsari / Kshamavani Pratikraman – once a year, on the main forgiveness day at the end of Paryushan/Das Lakshan.
Shwetambar & Digambar
- Both traditions do Pratikraman with this same basic idea:
- Exact clock timings and vidhi may differ a little by maryādā (local practice), so follow your guru / local sangh if they give a specific time.
