In Jain Dharma, Pratikraman is mainly done at fixed traditional times:

1. Daily Pratikraman (most important for shravaks)

• Raisi (Morning) Pratikraman

- For faults of the previous night - Done after sunrise, ideally within the first prahar (about 3 hours from sunrise).

• Devasi / Rai (Evening) Pratikraman

- For faults of the day - Done after sunset, ideally within about 1 muhurt (≈ 48 minutes) after sunset. - Many people sit a few minutes before sunset so the main vidhi starts at sandhyā (sunset time).

2. If you cannot do it daily Then tradition allows:

• Pakshik Pratikraman – once every 15 days (on Chaturdashi).
• Chaumasi Pratikraman – once in 4 months.
• Samvatsari / Kshamavani Pratikraman – once a year; this is must for every Jain.

Shwetambar & Digambar note

• Shwetambar: Very clear practice of Raisi (morning) and Devasi (evening) Pratikraman, plus Samvatsari during Paryushan.
• Digambar: Morning–evening Pratikraman also exists; the annual focus is during Das Lakshan & Kshamavani. Exact times can vary slightly by ācārya-maryādā, but always morning after sunrise and evening after sunset.

Simple way to remember:

• Morning: after sunrise, as early as you can.
• Evening: after sunset, as close as possible to sunset, within about 48 minutes.
• If you miss the ideal time, do it as soon as possible the same morning/evening with true repentance.
