Jnana 5 types
In Jainism, Jnana (knowledge) is classified into five types, known as Panch Jnana (Five Knowledges):
- Mati Jnana (Sensory Knowledge)
This is knowledge gained through the senses and mind. It includes perception, memory, reasoning, and inference.
- Shruta Jnana (Scriptural Knowledge)
This is knowledge obtained through scriptures, teachings, and verbal testimony. It is also called hearing or learning from others.
- Avadhi Jnana (Clairvoyant Knowledge)
This is direct knowledge of material things without the help of senses or scriptures, but limited to certain objects or areas.
- Manahparyaya Jnana (Telepathic Knowledge)
This is the knowledge of the thoughts of other beings. It is more advanced than Avadhi Jnana and is possessed by spiritually advanced souls.
- Kevala Jnana (Omniscience)
This is perfect, infinite, and complete knowledge, free from all limitations. Only the Arihants (liberated souls) possess this.
