What to do with the pakshaal water that i brought home from jain temple
Pakshaal (snatra) water is considered very pavitra because it has been used in the abhishek of Bhagwan’s idol. So it should always be handled with respect, not treated as normal water.
Common and appropriate ways (follow only what matches your family/sangh tradition):
- Sprinkle respectfully at home
- You can lightly sprinkle a little in your mandir at home. - Some people also sprinkle a little at the main places in the house for punya-bhāv.
- Place a few drops on head / eyes
- Many devotees put a few drops on the head or eyes with reverence, as a mark of devotion.
- Drink a very small amount (if it is clean and your tradition allows)
- In some traditions, a few drops are taken as pavitra jal (like charanodak), with full shraddhā. - If the water is not hygienic/old, then do not drink it; use one of the other options.
- Offer to plants / clean place on earth
- You can pour the remaining water at the roots of a plant or in a clean corner of the garden/soil. - This is better than putting it in the sink/drain, which is considered disrespectful.
- What you should avoid
- Do not use it for cooking, washing, bathing, or any worldly work. - Do not throw it in the bathroom, gutter, or dustbin. - Do not leave it lying around casually.
If your local temple or guru has told a specific maryādā (rule), follow that first. If you are ever unsure, the safest is: respectfully offer it to clean soil or plants after using a little in your home mandir.
