Which tap includes biyasana + upvas
Biyasana and Upvas both come under Bahya (external) Tap and more specifically under the group of Anashan–type fasting practices.
So the tap that includes both biyasana and upvas is:
> Bahya Tap (External Austerities) – in the Anashan/fasting category
- Biyasana – eating only two times a day, in fixed sittings, with discipline.
- Upvas – complete fast for about 24 hours (no food; water as per pachchakkhan).
Both Śvetāmbara and Digambara accept these as forms of external tapa meant for nirjarā (shedding karma); details of practice can vary slightly by tradition and local maryādā.
