Is jain relegion has any traces of multiverse

    8 months ago 150

In Jainism, there is no “multiverse theory” in the modern physics sense, but Jain cosmology is very vast and in some ways feels similar.

    Basic points:

    1. One eternal Loka (universe)

    - Jain texts speak of one universe called Loka. - It is beginningless and endless in time, not created by any God, and never destroyed. - Its shape is fixed (like a standing human figure – lokapurush).

    1. Three main regions inside this Loka

    - Urdhva Loka – upper worlds (heavens, Deva-lok). - Madhya Loka – middle world (human, animal, plants, etc. – where we live). - Adho Loka – lower worlds (7 hells / Narak). These are like many “levels” or “realms” inside one cosmic structure, not separate parallel universes.

    1. Countless worlds and beings

    - Within this one Loka, Jain cosmology describes innumerable continents, oceans, heavens, hells and infinite souls. - So reality is multi‑layered and extremely huge, but still it is one connected universe, not many separate universes.

    1. Beyond the universe – Aloka

    - Outside Loka is Aloka – complete void: no matter, no souls, no time, no karma. - So Jainism does not say there are other universes beyond our Loka; beyond it is only empty non‑universe.

    1. Digambar & Shvetambar

    - Both accept this same basic cosmology: one eternal Loka with upper, middle, and lower regions. - Differences are only in details (exact counts, shapes of some levels, etc.), not in the idea of many separate universes.

    So:

    • Jainism teaches one eternal, structured universe with immense variety of realms,
    • but not separate, disconnected universes like many modern “multiverse” models.
