in which aara we are currentl
According to Jain Dharma, right now we are in:
- Half-cycle (kāl): Avasarpinī (descending / dharma and happiness are decreasing)
- Āra (era): 5th āra – Duṣamā (Pancham Kāl / Dukhama Kāl)
Main points about the 5th āra:
- It is a sorrow‑dominant period – more dukkh, less real sukh.
- Lifespan, strength, and spirituality are low and declining.
- In Bhārat Kṣetra (our region):
- The 5th āra’s total duration is traditionally 21,000 years, and we are only a few thousand years into it; many thousands of years are still left. ( jainknowledge.com)
Both Digambar and Śvetāmbara traditions agree that:
- We are in Avasarpinī,
- and specifically in the 5th āra (Duṣamā) in Bhārat Kṣetra. ( jainknowledge.com)
