Wat does sahebji do if in periods and want to vihar next day

    8 months ago 144

In Jain dharm, periods (rajasvalā) are a natural body process. Rules are mainly about temple/puja maryādā, not about you being “impure”.

Your question has two possible cases:

    ---

    1. If you are still on periods and want to go for vihar (yatra/derasar visit) next day

    Traditional maryādā:

    • Travelling is allowed. There is no dosh in simply travelling in bus/car/train etc.
    • But during actual bleeding days you should:
    - Not do dravyapūjā (abhishek, āngi, aarti, touching idol, scriptures, puja‑samagri). - Not go inside garbhagriha or touch doors/railings of the sanctum. - You may: - Do Namokār mantra, stavans, dhyān, prarthanā. - Sit outside sanctum or in common hall and do bhāv‑bhakti only.
    • Health first: if you feel weak, keep bhakti simple and short.

    ---

    2. If your periods finish today and you want to vihar from tomorrow

    • When bleeding is over:
    - Take a full snān with head wash. - Wear freshly washed clothes.
    • After this, you can:
    - Go to derasar / tirth as normal. - Do regular puja, darshan, pratikraman according to your sect’s local maryādā.
    • In many Shwetāmbara and Digambar families, they restart puja from 4th day after proper bath, but exact count is family/sangh custom.

    ---

    Sect-wise general note

    • Shwetāmbara: Usually allow bhāv‑sādhana (mantra, stavan, samayik, pratikraman) at home; avoid idol/samagri touch during menses.
    • Digambar: Often a bit stricter about entering temple/sanctum during menses, but inner bhakti (jap, dhyān, pratikraman) is allowed.

    Essence:

    • Periods do not stop you from vihar/travel or inner sādhanā.
    • Only idol‑touch and sanctum puja are paused till bleeding stops and you have done full snān and worn clean clothes.
