What is the order of visiting shrines in parasnath for a jain
In Parasnath / Sammed Shikharji there is no compulsory scriptural rule about exact order. Different sanghs (groups) may follow slightly different routes depending on time, strength and guidance of their guru / leader.
But normally the traditional yatra for both Digambar and Shvetambar Jains is like this (very simple outline):
- At Madhuban (base of the hill)
- Snan, pratikraman (if possible), take pachhakkhan (vows for yatra). - Darshan of Bhomiyaji (guardian dev) and pray for nirbhay, safal yatra.
- Climb towards the hill-top
- First main stop on the hill is Gautam Swami Tonk (considered Tonk No. 1 in most lists).
- Eastern side tonks (generally visited first)
From Gautam Swami Tonk, yatris usually go towards the eastern side, doing darshan of the Tirthankar tonks one by one. These include tonks of: - Kunthunath - Rishabhdev (Adinath) - Chandraprabhu - Naminath - Aranath - Mallinath - Shreyansnath - Pushpadant (Suvrata / Suvidhinath) - Padmaprabhu - Munisuvrat Swami - (and others in that direction, depending how your guide explains).
Many yatris say, “Pehle purvi (east) ke tonk karte hain.”
- Jal Mandir
After the main eastern-side tonks, yatris usually go for Jal Mandir darshan (very important place in the yatra).
- Western side tonks
From Jal Mandir / central area, yatris go towards the western side tonks, including: - Dharmanath - Mahavir Swami - Varishen (Bharat) - Sumatinath - Shantinath - Suparshvanath - Vimalnath - Ajitnath - Neminath - And finally the Parshvanath Tonk (Parasnath peak) – this is treated as the highest / main siddha kshetra of the whole yatra.
- Return
- From Parshvanath Tonk you return, again passing by central tonks and Gautam Swami Tonk, and finally come back down to Madhuban. - Many people again bow to Bhomiyaji at the end of the yatra.
---
Important points:
- The names and exact numbering of 31 tonks are known and fixed, but:
- Both Digambar and Shvetambar respect the same siddha-bhoomi and the same tonks; style of pooja, mantra, and rules (pagdandi, ahar, etc.) can vary by sangh and guru.
- In Jain dharma, bhav (inner devotion) is more important than strict physical sequence.
So, in simple words: Start at Bhomiyaji → climb to Gautam Swami Tonk → do eastern tonks → Jal Mandir → western tonks → end at Parshvanath Tonk → return via Gautam Swami Tonk to base and again Bhomiyaji.
