Can a Samyagdrishti jeev bind nikachit karma . English. How does a samyagdrishti jeev deal with nikachit karma

    1. What is nikachit karma (in brief)?

Nikachit karma is that bondage of karma whose time and intensity cannot be changed once it is bound.

    • It cannot be made lighter or heavier.
    • It cannot be brought earlier (udīraṇā) or postponed.
    • It must be fully experienced; only then it is destroyed.

You can read a simple explanation of types of karma bondage here

    ---

    1. Can a samyagdrishti jīv bind new nikachit karma?

    In Jain doctrine (both traditions):

    • Nikachit bandha happens due to very intense, continuous passions (kaṣāya) with strong wrong-belief (mithyātva).
    • Such intensity is mainly found in mithyādṛṣṭi souls (1st–3rd guṇasthān).

After attaining samyak darshan (4th guṇasthān):

    • Wrong belief is removed.
    • Passions become weaker and more controlled.

Therefore, according to the general understanding of Jain ācāryas:

    • A samyagdrishti jīv normally does not bind fresh nikachit karma,
    • But whatever nikachit karma was already bound earlier (in mithyātva) will definitely give its result in due time, even after becoming samyagdrishti.

    So:

    • Past nikachit can remain on a samyagdrishti.
    • New nikachit bondage is practically not possible once true right-faith is firmly attained.

(If some small difference of detail exists between Digambar/Śvetāmbar texts, the core point above is accepted by both: samyaktva stops that extreme form of new bondage, but does not cancel old nikachit.)

    1. How does a samyagdrishti jīv deal with nikachit karma?

A samyagdrishti jīv cannot avoid nikachit karma result, but can change the inner response to it. This is the main difference from a mithyādṛṣṭi jīv.

When nikachit karma gives result (uday):

    1. Accepts it as one’s own karma

    - Does not blame others or God. - Thinks: “This is my own past karma getting finished.”

    1. Bears it with equanimity (sāmāyik / upekṣā)

    - Tries to remain calm in pleasure or pain. - Avoids anger, hatred, revenge, deep attachment, etc.

    1. Prevents new bondage

    - If pain comes and the jīv reacts with anger, violence, etc., then new karmas are bound again. - A samyagdrishti tries to end the chain: - old nikachit is suffered, - but no new strong karma is bound on top of it.

    1. Uses it for spiritual growth

    - Does pratikraman, forgiveness (kṣamā), peace (śānti). - Increases śraddhā in Jain tattvas: soul, karma, liberation. - Practices tapa (austerity) as far as possible, which helps in shedding other non‑nikachit karmas.

So, nikachit must be suffered, but how it is suffered makes a huge difference:

    • Mithyādṛṣṭi: suffers with agitation, anger, delusion → binds more karmas.
    • Samyagdrishti: suffers with understanding and equanimity → finishes old karmas and moves nearer to liberation.

    ---

    1. Short summary
    • Yes, a samyagdrishti jīv can have nikachit karmas on the soul, but they were usually bound earlier, before right faith.
    • After true samyak darshan, new nikachit bondage practically does not occur, because such extreme passions and wrong-belief are not there.
    • A samyagdrishti faces nikachit karma calmly, accepts it as one’s own past deed, bears it with equanimity, and carefully avoids new passions—thus turning that painful phase into spiritual progress instead of fresh bondage.
