In Jain tradition, the Purāṇas mainly contain three broad types of stories:

1. Stories of one (or a few) great persons

- These focus on the life of a single mahāpuruṣa (great soul), such as a Tirthankar, Vāsudeva, Baladeva, or other important Jain heroes.

1. Mahāpurāṇa type

- These describe the complete series of all 63 mahāpuruṣas (Tirthankars and other great beings) in an ordered, systematic way.

1. Māhātmya type

- These tell the greatness (mahima) of specific tīrthas or pilgrimage places, temples, and holy regions, explaining their spiritual importance through stories.

So, three main types of stories are told in Jain Purāṇas.
