The soul takes rebirth in one of four gatis according to its karmas: 1. Devlok (heavenly beings) 2. Manushya gati (human) 3. Tiryanch gati (animals, birds, insects, etc.) 4. Narak gati (hellish beings)

Exactly which place or body a particular soul has now is known only by:

• That soul itself (if it has Keval Jnan) or
• A Kevali Bhagwan (omniscient being).

Normal people like us cannot know it precisely.
