Is it true that no one Born in the pancham ara would ever attain Moksh

    7 months ago 128

In Jain Dharma, the statement needs to be made very precise:

    1. In our present Bharat Kṣetra, in this current 5th āra (Pancham Kaal):

    - No one will attain moksh from here. - In this era: - No new Tirthankars arise - No Kevaljnanis appear - Moksh-marg does continue (right faith, knowledge, conduct), but final liberation (moksh) is not attained from Bharat / Airavat Kṣetra in this 5th āra. ( jainknowledge.com)

On this point, both Digambar and Shvetambar traditions agree.

    1. Does that mean “no one born in Pancham āra ever attains moksh” (anywhere)?

No. The more correct Jain view is:

    - A jīva born now in Pancham Kaal in Bharat can: - Do strong samyaktva, vows, tapas, samvar–nirjarā - Create very powerful causes (kāraṇ-bhāv) for future Kevaljnan and moksh - Actual moksh may then be attained in a later birth, in a suitable place (e.g. Mahāvideh Kṣetra) and suitable era, when all karmas are destroyed. ( jainknowledge.com)

    1. Right now, where is moksh actually possible?

    - In the present time, Jain cosmology says moksh is still being attained in Mahāvideh Kṣetra, where Tirthankars are always present and the spiritual era is conducive. - So: Moksh is possible “now” – but not from our Bharat Kṣetra in this 5th āra. ( jainknowledge.com)

    1. So how to understand it simply?

    - The popular line “Pancham mā koi moksh nathī” is shorthand. - The accurate idea is: - From Bharat Kṣetra + 5th āra, no soul goes to siddha-loka now. - But souls living now can advance spiritually, and later (in another birth, place, and time) definitely attain moksh.

    In summary:

    • Yes, it is true that from our current Bharat Kṣetra in Pancham āra, no one will attain moksh.
    • No, it is not true that a soul born in Pancham āra can never attain moksh; it can, but in a future suitable birth when all karmas are destroyed.
