If we take niyam in jainism of 1 month

    7 months ago 171

Taking a 1‑month niyam (vow) in Jainism is very good sādhanā if done with proper understanding and discipline.

    Below is a simple guide:

    ---

    1. What is a “1‑month niyam”?

For 1 full month you decide a specific rule of restraint and follow it strictly for Jain dharma and self‑purification. Example types:

    • Āhār niyam (food‑related)
    - No night‑eating (chovihār) for 1 month - No fried food / no sweets / no outside food - Ekāsan (one sitting meal) or Beāsan (two sittings) daily - Daily Ayambil (if capacity allows)
    • Bhakti / sādhanā niyam
    - Daily Samayik (e.g., 48 minutes) - Daily Pratikraman - Fixed number of Navkār mantra or a stotra mala daily - Daily swādhyāy (Jain scripture reading) for some minutes
    • Tyāg niyam (renunciation)
    - No TV / social media / movies for 1 month - No anger / no lies effortfully (special care) - Simplicity in clothing / spending (aparigraha)

You may combine 1–2 small niyams according to your sharir (body), kāl (time), and paristhiti (situation).

    ---

    2. How to properly take a 1‑month niyam

    1. Decide clearly

    - Exactly what you will do / avoid - For how long (e.g., from 1st to 30th of a month)

    1. Take pachchakkhān (formal vow)

    - If possible, in front of a Jain monk/nun or at least before Jin Pratima at home/derasar. - Speak clearly: “I take this niyam for 1 month: … I will follow it as per my capacity, without carelessness.”

    1. Set daily routine

    - Fix time for samayik / pratikraman / path - Fix food rules: time, number of meals, what is allowed / not allowed

    1. Observe with care of ahiṃsā

    - Boiled / filtered water - Eat before sunset - Avoid new items, avoid carelessness, avoid waste - Keep control over kashāy (anger, pride, deceit, greed)

    1. Complete and do parṇā

    - On last day, complete niyam properly - Do pratikraman, ask forgiveness for any lapses - Then do parṇā (end of vow) with gratitude, not with over‑excitement or over‑eating

    ---

    3. Important points to remember

    • Choose a niyam that is realistic for your health, work, and family duties.
    • Don’t do it for show; do it with bhāva (inner devotion).
    • If by mistake you break it:
    - Accept your fault - Do ālochana–pratikraman (confess, repent, and resolve to be more careful) - Ask guidance if you must restart / continue with prāyashchitta as per your guru / sangh.

    ---

    4. Simple example niyams for 1 month

For beginners, some gentle but powerful options:

    • Daily Navkār mantra 108 times + no food after sunset.
    • Daily samayik 30–48 minutes.
    • No outside food / restaurant food for 1 month.
    • Only two simple meals a day, no snacks.
    • Daily 15–20 minutes Jain granth reading (e.g., Tattvārtha Sūtra explanation, Panch Pratikraman, etc.).
