which is thje authentic digamber jain text
In Digambar Jain tradition, there is not just one single “authentic text”, but a set of core scriptures that are treated as most authoritative.
Very simply:
- Śaṭkhaṇḍāgama (Satkhandāgama)
- Considered one of the oldest and most important Digambar texts. - Deals mainly with karma theory in great detail.
- Kaṣāyapāhuda (Kasāyapāhuda)
- Text on kaṣāyas (passions like anger, pride, deceit, greed). - Shows how these passions bind karma and block spiritual progress.
- The Four Anuyogas (Four scriptural “branches”)
Digambar literature is often grouped as: - Prathamanuyoga – stories of Tirthankars, Ganadhars, great shravaks, etc. - Karanānuyoga – cosmology, loka (universe), time‑cycles, etc. - Caraṇānuyoga – conduct: vows, monk rules, layperson dharma, etc. - Dravyānuyoga – philosophy: soul, karma, tattvas, etc.
- Tattvārtha Sūtra
- Accepted by both Digambar and Shwetambar (with some differences in commentary). - Systematic summary of Jain philosophy (tattvas, vows, stages of spiritual progress, etc.).
- Other key Digambar works (examples)
- Samayasāra, Pravacanasāra, Niyamasāra (by Āchārya Kundakunda) - Commentaries on Śaṭkhaṇḍāgama and Kaṣāyapāhuda by later ācāryas
Important point:
- Digambar Jains believe the original Ang‑Āgams were lost.
- So they do not accept the present Śwetāmbara Āgams as authentic words of Mahavir.
- For them, texts like Śaṭkhaṇḍāgama, Kaṣāyapāhuda and the Anuyoga literature are the authentic scriptural base.
