Will i get karma if i visit a temple immediately after a baby is born in my house?

    7 months ago 206

In Jain Dharma, simply going to a temple after a baby is born in your house does not give you bad karma.

    Key Jain points:

    1. No “sutak” concept in core Jainism

    - Ideas like “after birth you must not go to temple for X days” come mainly from non‑Jain social/custom traditions. - Jain scriptures do not say, “You cannot go to temple after a birth.” ( jainknowledge.com)

    1. Karma depends on your bhāv (inner state)

    - Karma is bound by anger, pride, deceit, greed and himsā (violence), not by events like birth happening in the house. ( jainknowledge.com) - Going to the temple with devotion, humility and shubh bhāv creates puṇya, not sin.

    1. What about family/custom rules?

    - Some families say, “Don’t go to temple for a few days after birth.” - This is vyavahār (family or community custom), not a compulsory Jain rule. You may follow it out of respect for elders if you wish, but know it is not dharmic “must” from Agam or main Jain texts. ( jainknowledge.com)

    1. Practical Jain way

    - If you are clean (snān etc.) and your health allows, you can go to temple even the same day, and do: - Namokār Mantra - Simple darshan, chaityavandan - Bhakti for good saṁskār of the newborn - Focus on ahiṁsā, care of mother and baby, and shānt, grateful bhāv.

So: No, you do not get bad karma just because you visit a temple immediately after a baby is born. If anything, with the right bhāv, it becomes a good, puṇya‑giving act in Jainism.
