Where are the next 24 tirthankaras
In Jain Dharma, for our Bharat Kshetra (this Earth-region) the situation is like this:
- The 24 Tirthankaras of this time‑cycle are already completed
- From Bhagwan Rishabhdev (Ādinath) to Bhagwan Mahavir Swami – all 24 have already come, attained Kevalgyan, and then attained moksh (liberation). - Now they live forever as Siddhas in Siddha Shila, at the very top of the universe. - So in our present descending time‑cycle (Avasarpinī), no more Tirthankaras will come in Bharat Kshetra after Bhagwan Mahavir.
- “Next 24 Tirthankaras” in Bharat Kshetra
- The “next 24” for Bharat Kshetra will not appear soon. - They will come only in the next Utsarpinī (ascending time‑cycle), after an unimaginably long period of time, when the cycle turns and conditions again become suitable for Tirthankaras. - Right now, their births have not yet started; cosmically, this is far, far in the future.
- But there ARE living Tirthankaras – in other regions
- Jain cosmology says there are many world‑regions (like Mahāvideh Kshetra) where Tirthankaras are presently living, preaching, and running samavasaraṇ even now. - That is why in our prayers we also bow to the present living Tirthankaras of Mahāvideh Kshetra, even though we cannot physically go there from here.
So, in simple words:
- Our 24 Tirthankaras are now in Siddha Shila as liberated souls.
- In this current half‑cycle no “next 24” will come in Bharat Kshetra.
- The next set of 24 for our region will arise only in the very distant future, in the next ascending time‑cycle.
