What does it mean when you see high tide waves in dreams

    7 months ago 179

In Jainism, dreams are understood mainly as nimitta (signals) arising from our karma and the state of our own mind. They are not fixed predictions of the future.

Seeing high tide / big waves in a dream is not described as a specific, separate symbol in Jain scriptures for ordinary people, but from the general Jain view on dreams we can understand it like this:

    1. Mind is disturbed or restless

    - Strong, rising waves usually show inner agitation – worries, fears, strong emotions. - Jain Dharma says the mind reflects our kashāyas (anger, ego, deceit, greed). When these rise, dreams also become stormy.

    1. Karma and caution (be more careful)

    - Such a dream can be taken as an aśubha-swapna (not very auspicious), a gentle warning: - “Be alert; do not act in hurry or under emotions.” - Check if you are getting pulled by desires, anger, tension – like being pulled by waves.

    1. Reminder of anitya (changefulness)

    - Waves rise and fall. They remind us that situations, joys, sorrows – all are temporary. - The soul (ātma) is like the deep ocean – peaceful below the surface. The dream can be a call to return to that inner peace.

What you can do the Jain way

If you see such dreams often:

    • Do Navkār Mantra with shuddha bhāv (pure feeling), especially before sleep.
    • Try to do short samayik or a few minutes of dhyan (meditation) daily to calm the inner “waves”.
    • Practice Pratikraman:
    - Think, “Did I hurt anyone today by words, thoughts, actions?” - Accept, repent, and resolve to improve.
    • Reduce things that disturb the mind: arguments, violence-filled content, overthinking before sleep.
    • Strengthen ahimsā, forgiveness, contentment, and simple living. These slowly quieten the inner ocean.

    Important

    • Jain Dharma does not say: “This exact dream means this exact event will surely happen.”
    • The real fruit lies in how you purify your conduct now, not in the dream itself.
