How to identify the same,if no elders are alive .and no information available
It’s not fully clear what you mean by “the same” here.
Do you mean how to identify:
- Your Jain gotra / kul?
- Your Jain sangh / gacch / sampraday (sect)?
- Your Jati / caste?
- Or something else (like family’s original place, dev-dravya, etc.)?
If no elders are alive and no written information is available, then generally:
- Check old documents
- Old property papers - School records of parents/grandparents - Marriage cards of relatives - Old letters or postcards Sometimes caste, gotra, or native place is written there.
- Go to the local Jain temple where your family used to go
- Pujari / panditji / pathshala teacher may know your family background. - Many temples maintain member registers – old records may mention your family details.
- Ask distant relatives / family friends / neighbours
- Even if close elders are not alive, sometimes neighbours or very old family friends know the community, caste, or sangh.
- Look for old photos
- Photos with sadhus/sadhvijis, sangh yatras, or special poojas can give hints about which sampraday / panth your family followed (e.g. Terapanth, Tapagachch, Digambar, etc.).
- If nothing at all is known
- From a Jain dharmic point of view, the most important thing is your aachar (conduct), shraddha (faith), and samyak darshan, not your label. - You can still follow Jain vows (vrat), panch parmeshthi, live ahimsa, do pratikraman, etc. - For many basic Jain practices, exact jati or gotra is not compulsory.
If you tell me what exactly you are trying to identify, I can guide you in a more precise Jain way (for example: rules for marriage, pooja, diksha tradition, etc.).
