In the Jain story of Shalibhadra, Gobhadra Sheth (also called Gobhila / Gobhadra Shah) becomes a dev in Devlok because of his great punya and renunciation. From Devlok he sends wealth to his son Shalibhadra on earth.

The simple reason:

• In his previous human life, Gobhadra was a very rich merchant.
• He had deep attachment to his family, especially to his wife Bhadra and son Shalibhadra.
• After taking diksha and then going to Devlok, the sanskar (impressions) of affection and responsibility towards his family were still there as shubh (apparently good) but bandhak (binding) bhaav.
• Because of that mithyā–mamatva (wrong attachment), as a dev he used his powers to keep sending immense wealth to Shalibhadra, so that Shalibhadra never felt any shortage of money.

So:

• Outwardly, it looks like a father lovingly supporting his son with money from Devlok.
• Spiritually, Jain acharyas show this as a warning example:

- Even deva can remain bound in saṁsār if they continue attachment. - Too much wealth can become the cause of more bondage for the person who receives it (here, Shalibhadra), because it feeds pride, comforts, and carelessness.

Later, by Lord Mahavir’s grace and right understanding, both lines of attachment break:

• Gobhadra’s dev-bhaav and attachment are shown as spiritually wrong, even though they look loving.
• Shalibhadra finally realizes the uselessness of such wealth and renounces everything to take diksha.

So, Gobhadra Sheth was giving money from Devlok due to leftover attachment (moh) and affection for his family, which produced a lot of material comfort but was spiritually a cause of continued bondage for both.
