Sleeping and waking time
In Jain dharma, sleeping and waking time are mainly guided by discipline, ahimsa, and support for sādhanā (spiritual practice), not by a fixed “rule” of exact hours.
1. Ideal waking time
- Wake early in the morning, preferably in brahm muhurt (about 1½ hours before sunrise) or at least close to sunrise.
- Use this time for:

2. Ideal sleeping time
- Finish food before sunset.
- After sunset, do:

3. How many hours to sleep?
- Scriptures don’t fix “exact hours” for householders.
