What's good time to sleep
From a Jain (and general health) point of view:
- Sleep early at night
- Ideally between 9:00 pm – 10:30 pm. - This keeps the mind fresh for brahm muhurt (early morning spiritual practices).
- Wake up in brahm muhurt
- Around 4:00 am – 5:30 am is considered very good for - samayik / prarthana - swadhyay (scripture study) - dhyan (meditation) - At this time, the mind is calmer and sattvik, so spiritual progress is easier.
- Avoid very late nights
- Sleeping after 11:30 pm–12:00 am regularly makes the body dull, increases laziness, and disturbs concentration in pratikraman, paath, or puja.
- Regular timing is more important than exact clock time
- Try to keep a fixed routine: - sleep at about the same time every night - get 6–8 hours of sleep (as per your age and health).
- Before sleeping (according to Jain practice)
- Do alochana–pratikraman (reflection on the day’s mistakes). - Remember the Panch Parmeshthi. - Sleep with peaceful, non-violent, pure thoughts – this improves the quality of sleep and next day’s meditation.
So, a very balanced Jain routine would be:
- Sleep around 10:00 pm
- Wake up around 4:30–5:00 am for spiritual practices.
