From a Jain point of view, two things matter together: ahimsa (non‑violence) and practical safety/cleanliness.

Here is a simple, step‑by‑step way to handle it:

    1. Stay calm, don’t react suddenly

Try not to hit, spray, or crush it out of fear or disgust. Take a breath and remember: it is also a jiv (living soul) passing through its own journey.

    1. Gently remove it from the house

    - Take a glass/jar/box and a stiff paper/cardboard. - Slowly place the glass over the bug. - Slide the paper under it, lifting both together. - Carry it outside the house (garden, balcony, open area) and release it gently.

    1. Avoiding future entry (with minimum himsa)

    - Keep the house clean and dry (many insects come for food/water). - Close gaps in windows/doors, use fine mesh/net where possible. - Store food properly so it doesn’t attract insects. - Prefer physical barriers (nets, sealing cracks) instead of chemical sprays.

    1. If it is a serious infestation

    - For termites, bed‑bugs, etc., it can risk health or home structure. - First try non‑killing methods: trapping, cleaning, sealing, moving items, professional advice that focuses on removal rather than mass killing. - If some harm ends up happening despite best efforts, keep your bhavna (inner intention) pure: you did not want to harm; you were protecting health and safety.

    1. Do prarthana (prayer) and pratikraman in your heart

    - Silently say: “If I have caused any harm to this jiv knowingly or unknowingly, I ask for forgiveness.” - Have maitri bhavna – feeling of friendship – towards all living beings, even those that scare or disgust us.

    1. For your fear (“creeping me out”)

    - Remind yourself: it is a tiny jiv, also fearful and confused in a new place. - If you can’t handle it yourself, calmly ask a family member to follow the gentle removal steps above, instead of killing it.

This way you protect your home while keeping your Jain values and compassion intact.
