I hat is the importance and punya karma we get from pakshal
Pakshal (or Prabhu Pakshal / Abhishek) means respectfully bathing the idol of Tirthankar Bhagwan with clean water (sometimes also called Jal‑abhishek or Snatra).
Its importance and the punya (merit) depend mainly on your bhav (inner feeling):
- Smaran of Tirthankar’s Janma‑kalyanak
- Pakshal reminds us of the divine bath given by Indra to the newborn Tirthankar on Meru. - Thinking of that pavitra (pure) event with shraddha creates smaran‑janit punya – merit from remembering and praising the Jina.
- Antar‑shuddhi (inner purification)
- As we wash the idol, we mentally pray: “Just as this murti is becoming clean, may my krodh, maan, maya, lobh be washed away.” - This kashay‑kshaya ni ichchha (desire to reduce passions) is a strong cause of shubha bhav and thus punya.
- Vinay (humility) and seva
- Gently doing seva of Jin‑murti: wiping, drying, keeping the altar clean – all done with namrata (humility) reduces ego. - Vinay towards Arihant becomes uttam vinay punya – a high class of punya because it is directed to the highest beings.
- Shuddha upayog (focused awareness)
- During Pakshal, if you keep your mind on Navkar mantra, Jina‑gun, and avoid gossip or distraction, your upayog becomes shuddha. - Shuddha upayog in presence of Tirthankar pratima is a strong bhav‑puja and binds uttam gati‑karmas (causes for good future states), especially for manushya / deva gati.
- Support for samyak darshan, gyan, charitra
- Regular calm Pakshal with right belief supports awakening and strengthening of samyak darshan. - Scriptures explain that such dravya‑bhakti (physical worship) done with sadbhav becomes a sahakari karan (supporting cause) for spiritual progress and higher punya.

Punya we get (in simple terms)
If done with right attitude:
- Good future birth – causes for human or deva birth.
- Health, peace, and basic sukha – as a by‑product of shubha karmas.
- Opportunity to meet Jain dharma again – punya that keeps you close to temples, satsang, and good sangh.
- Inner shanti right now – mind becomes lighter, calmer; this is also a fruit of shubha bhav.
If done only mechanically, for show, or with ego/competition, then punya is less; the main fruit always depends on bhav, not on quantity of water, time, or decoration.
