why are jain idiots?
Jains are not idiots.
Jain Dharma is one of the oldest, most thoughtful spiritual traditions in the world. It is based on deep principles like:
- Ahimsa (Non‑violence)
- Not hurting any living being by thought, word, or action. - This includes kindness toward humans, animals, even tiny insects.
- Anekāntavād (Many‑sided truth)
- Truth can have many perspectives. - We should avoid rigid thinking and try to understand others’ views calmly.
- Aparigraha (Non‑possessiveness)
- Reducing attachment to money, things, ego, and desires. - Living simply and with self‑discipline.
- Self‑control and discipline
- Fasting, limiting food after sunset, careful diet, truthfulness, avoiding anger, greed, and pride. - Monks and nuns follow very strict rules, sacrificing comfort for spiritual progress.
People sometimes call others “idiots” when:
- They don’t understand their beliefs or practices,
- They see something different and react with anger or mockery,
- Or they have had a bad experience with a specific person and generalize it to a whole religion.
From a Jain point of view:
- Using harsh words and insults creates bad karma.
- Speaking with respect, even when we disagree, is part of right conduct (samyak chāritra).
If you’ve seen something about Jains that feels strange, unfair, or hypocritical, you can ask about that directly (for example: “Why do Jains do X?”). That way we can look at the actual practice and its reason, instead of attacking a whole community.
